Laura is a happy child growing up sheltered and innocent in the loving embrace of her two middle-class parents. She grows up during the time of America’s greatest economic growth and becomes a teenager when Americans are just learning of Vietnam and the Beatles. One summer while working at a neighborhood store with her best friend, she meets Bobby, the boy of her dreams. Laura’s innocence soon disappears as she finds herself pregnant and unwed at the age of sixteen. Her family’s life is thrown into turmoil.
